Valentine's Day will be here before we know it. So, of course, I updated our blog background. I love changing the background around holidays, other special days, etc. If you look in the top left corner of the page you'll see a box "Cutest Blog on the Block" and that is where I find all of these cute backgrounds. You can click on the box and it will link you to their website. And here is yet another countdown for the blog - counting the days to Valentine's Day!! JOEY!!!!

I have been tagged by Angie to answer a few questions about Joey.

1.What is his name? Joseph Tillman Scarborough, III

2. Who eats more? We probably eat about the same.

3. Who said, "I love you" first? I did

4. Who is taller? haha, HIM!!! We lost #5 somewhere.

6. Who is more sensitive? Me, aren't all women?

7. Who does the laundry? Me because I actually enjoy it, but he knows how.

8. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? If you're looking at it, I do.

9. Who pays the bills? Joey

10. Who cooks more? well, I'm home more so probably me, but he cooks a lot too!

11. Who is more stubborn? He is!

12. Who is the first to admit they are wrong? I usually do.

13. Who has more siblings? Me

14. Who wears the pants in the relationship? neither one of us.

15. What do you like to do together?watch House dvds, play wii

16. Who eats more sweets? Joey.

17. Guilty Pleasures? Eating dinner at nice, but expensive restaurants (when we really need to save the money!)

18. How did you meet? We knew each other through high school, but Joey e-mailed me and then came to Chuck's and that's where the magic started. lol.

19. Who asked whom out first? He asked me

22. His best features and qualities? he is such a hard worker and he is so smart - we think so differently - he has such a mechanical mind and can sure so much with me and vice versa (my knowledge probably doesn't interest him as much.)

China, crystal, etc.

Several months ago, my mom and Joey's mom took off to pick out my china, crystal, and flatware. Here are the choices we made:

I'll spare you on the looks of the flatware and the crystal. lol. I just thought these were so pretty I would share.

Tea

My bridal tea has been scheduled. Mrs. Ruthanne McCaig will be hosting. (Ruthanne is my sister in law's mother and has been nice enough to take this on.) Along with Mrs. McCaig, the other hostesses are Ms. Helen Burton, Mrs. Sue Fomby, Mrs. Peggy Little, Mrs. Gayle Mason, Mrs. Mary Carroll Payne, Mrs. Debbie Whitaker, and Mrs. Julie Williams. I know they have taken on a lot to put this on and I am very thankful for that!

Jeremy Parker

Joey and Jeremy were in the FFA together in highschool. Something I have always noticed about Jeremy and Joey is how much they both help each other out. Anytime Joey ever needed anything (manual labor or not), Jeremy was always there to help and vice versa. The first time I'd really been around Jeremy was a trip to Reno, Nevada. Jeremy's wife was a travel nurse at the time and was living in Reno. We went skiing and I will never forget "Let's go hit some fresh pow pow." hahaha.

Also, another story I remember is that Jeremy & I both went to New Orleans with Joey - it was my first time and I think it was his as well. Joey was going to buy an tractor trailer truck. Jeremy was to be the mechanic - I think that Jeremy got his work cut out for him that day. Needless to say, we did not leave with a truck. I think that day Joey had a new found love for both me and Jeremy (or at least I hope he did!!!!) Joey asked us if we wanted to venture into the city of New Orleans - where we both said NO! lol.

To this day, Joey still looks (and I'm sure Jeremy will happily tag along) for A GOOD DEAL! We look forward to spending our wedding day with you (and sorry it is so close to planting!)

Flatter Yourself

I've been trying to lose a few pounds before the wedding because I think it will make me feel more comfortable and I know I need to anyway! So, I've been watching what I eat (for the most part) and I've really grown attached to this magazine - Self for fitness, nutrition, health and beauty advice. I have been reading this article about jump starting your diet and it gives several tips. Well, I read this one tip today at it read:

FLATTER YOURSELF - Women who see themselves as heavier than they are have a harder time maintaining weight loss after a year, a study in Eating and Weight Disordes notes. "Everytime you catch yourself saying something negative about your body today, write down a compliment and repeat it 10 times instead." says Margo Maine, Ph.D., a body-image expert in West Hartford, Conneticut, and author of the Body Myth.

Wow! What a great piece of advice!!! It is so simple, but just reading that made me feel better about myself! I think men and women should do this - even if it has nothing to do with our weight, everytime we start to be negative, write down something positive about the situation! Alright, I'm done with my motivational speaking for the day!

Michael Butler

Michael is my big brother. He is 8 years older than me, but we are still very close. Growing up, he was my bodyguard when Beth would start acting up. He also is the reason that most of my childhood life was either caught on VHS or in some recording. Oh me and Michael were a good combo, he was a great commentator and I loved the spotlight so I gave him plenty to commentate on. It is no wonder that he took over the local radio station that my grandparents had when we were growing up. He's done great things for the radio station and it continues to grow. And, he's done great things for me - I'm probably alive b/c he took up for me. (haha.) Thanks for being a great big brother. We look forward to you being in the wedding!

Brittan, my first niece

I remember the day that Brittan was born and it is very hard for me to think about that being 11 years (almost 12) ago!

I remember when Joey and I first started dating (first couple of months) - it was around Halloween - he asked Brittan what she would be for Halloween and she said she was going to be a pine comb. hahaha. Yes, that was a long time ago. lol.

Brittan has grown into a beautiful young woman and she will be a junior bridesmaid in the wedding. We can't wait for the day and are so glad that she will be in our wedding!

Sweet Little Divas

Brooke Royster & Georgia Anne Butler will be the flower girls in our wedding. Brooke & Georgia Anne are our nieces. They both love the spotlight so I have a feeling that this will be just another chance to shine!

Wedding Entertainment!

Introducing our wedding entertainment! Marshall Thornhill and Jack Butler (our nephews) will be providing pre-ceremony wedding entertainment as our ring bearers! I can't wait to see these little fellows come down the aisle.

Thomas Turner

Joey and Thomas grew up here in Tallassee together. Joey loved riding bicycles all over Tallassee with Thomas. They also were on the same Babe Ruth Baseball team together (The A's). Thomas & Joey would always partner together for Science Fair projects. (I'm sure those projects were quite interesting!)

One of the things that Joey remembers about Thomas was the fact that he and Steven Weaver worked at the Hospital Cafeteria and were able to bring home any left over food. While they were working at the hospital, Thomas & Steven also established important "properly aged" contacts which proved beneficial during the high school years.

Joey always says that Thomas was often the brunt of many jokes during college because although Thomas had moved away to college, his mother, still had the ability to ground him from more than 30 miles away!!

Joey considers both Steven & Thomas good friends and if it weren't for both, he would have never made it through high school!

Thomas now lives in New Site, AL with his wife, Julie and son, Jacob.

We are very excited and thankful that Thomas is part of our wedding day.

Destin

Joey had a Southern Southeastern conference and I was lucky enough to tag along! It was at San Destin and I walked around mostly. We also went to a piano bar and ate a lot of good food during our stay!!!! Here are a few pictures from the trip. Oh and a picture of my masterpiece I made at a place called Paint'n Place (it was a lot of fun, although I'm not the most artistic!)

Our invitations came in today! They are beautiful if I must say so myself. Maybe Joey won't read this and get too freaked out, but this made it very "real" for me today. haha. I can't believe we'll be getting married in less than 4 months! WOW! This year has really flown by - Joey proposed on the 30th of this month! All this planning - and the day will be here before we know it! I am really anticipating it now and can't wait! :)

HOUSE, M.D.

Joey & I have recently become a little obsessed with the t.v. series - House, M.D. If you haven't watched the show before, we highly recommend that you do! Dr. Gregory House you will love (even if he is a jerk!) The main actor, Hugh Laurie (Gregory House) is actually British, but he pulls the "American" accent off pretty well! The show also has an awesome soundtrack (my profile song was one I heard on the show.) We are slowly catching up on the dvds (thanks Mom and Dad) and hopefully will be caught up with this season in the next couple of weeks!

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

If you've been following the blog, you know that we went to Savannah and also that I got a library card. lol. Well, I had checked out the book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. The book is based in Savannah and based on true characters there (some names have been changed). Instead of trying to give my own description of the book - I took this from Wikipedia. Oh and I highly recommend that you read this if you haven't before!

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is atmospheric and Southern Gothic in tone, depicting a wide range of eccentric Savannah personalities.

The action that serves as a catalyst in the book is the killing of Danny Hansford, a local hustler (characterized as "a good time not yet had by all") by respected art dealer Jim Williams. Four murder trials resulted, with the final one ending in acquittal after the judge finally agreed to having the case moved away from the Savannah jury pool. The book characterizes the killing as a murder. Hansford and Williams were linked sexually, but the exact nature of their relationship was unclear. The death took place in Williams's home, originally built by an ancestor of songwriter and Savannah native Johnny Mercer.

The book also highlights many other residents of Savannah, most notably The Lady Chablis, a local drag queen and entertainer. Chablis provides both a Greek chorus of sorts as well as a lighthearted contrast to the more serious action.

The book's plot is based on real-life events that occurred in the 1980s and is classified as nonfiction. Because it reads like a novel, it is sometimes referred to as a "nonfiction novel," a subgenre popularized by Truman Capote and Norman Mailer. (Booksellers generally feature the title in the "true crime" subsection.) It is among the most popular nonfiction releases of all time.

The title alludes to the hoodoo notion of "midnight"; the period between the time for good magic and the time for evil magic; in "the garden of good and evil," which refers principally to Bonaventure Cemetery.

The famous Bird Girl statue, originally designed both as art and as a birdseed holder, was originally located at Bonaventure. A Savannah photographer, Jack Leigh, was commissioned to take a photograph for the cover of the book and created his now famous photograph of the statue. The Bird Girl was relocated in 1997 for display in the Telfair Museum in Savannah.

Meg Martin Blair had these pics and I just loved looking at this. I had forgotten about ShowBiz! Whew! If you can't figure out which one I am in the second pic, I'll give you a hint - I'm the clutz with the band-aids all over my leg. hahaha.

Steven Weaver, just a good ole' boy

Joey has known Steven since they were born (literally!) His parents and Steven's parents have been friends since before they were born. Joey went to Mrs. Williams' daycare with Steven. While at Mrs. Williams' daycare, Joey had his first "fight" with Steven. They had a disagreement on the proper tune of the Dukes of Hazzard horn. 'Til this day the matter still hasn't been settled! haha.

Joey & Steven graduated high school together in 1995. During the high school years, Joey & Steven had a firewood business together. After high school, Steven attended the University of Alabama and Joey attended Auburn University and they both graduated at the same time (same month!) After college, they moved to North Carolina together to work for Cisco.

Joey says the funniest story of him and Steven was the first year that Steven was 16 and old enough to drive to the beach to meet his parents. Joey & Steven had a stockpile of beer that they had planned to hide before getting to the beach house. Well, they forgot and right as they got to the beach house they realized what had happened so they scooted on by the house thinking they would go unnoticed. Unfortunately for Joey and Steven, all of their parents were on the front porch waving at them and Joey & Steven just waved back as they went on by to go hide the beer. haha.

Oh and to settle the score about the Dukes of Hazzard horn - here you go! Oh and there's a bonus too! haha.

Time is flying by!

We are now realizing how our long engagement has just about run out. We don't have very long before the big day. I keep thinking oh gosh, have I forgotten something? I hope not!!!


MySpace Countdowns

Excitement!

Yesterday, I had so much excitement. First the library, then off to water aerobics!

I know I'm going to come off as sounding like a nerd, but I went and got my library card at the Community Library here in Tallassee. I love to read and I've been looking for a book, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt. Every trip I take to Savannah, I always promise that I am going to read this book since it is based on events and characters in Savannah, but I've never followed through, until now. Joey mentioned that I should go to the library so I went to the library and got my card - all for free! Then I got 2 books (which will be due back in 2 weeks) - Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, John Berendt and 4 Blondes by Candace Bushnell, the author who wrote Sex and the City. If you live in Tallassee and are not taking advantage of the library - I encourage you to do so! There were so many books - I know its a library, but I'm talking recent books. I don't know why I was surprised by the variety of the inventory, but I was, so I'm passing it along.

Also, last night Mrs. Alunda and I started our water aerobics class and it was fun! It was just Mrs. Alunda and I and the instructor last night, but I think it was good to get acclimated to what each class would be like. Mrs. Alunda did great - she never stopped moving!

Shona

I met Shona many, many years ago when she lived close to my house. (I'm talking 20 years ago!) I was closer in age to her sister Tiffany, however, and I spent most of my school age life being friends with Tiffany. After I graduated high school and Tiffany got married and started a family, Shona and I spent more time together and are now the best of friends. Shona has since gotten married to Brad Griffith and they have a little boy, Caden. The wedding is steadily approaching and we are very glad to have Shona a part of it!

More Savannah

Our last night in Savannah, we went to a Moroccan restaurant. Here is J.W. pictured with one of the belly dancers. You always wonder about trying new things, but the food here was AWESOME!

First Day of 2009 in Savannah, Georgia

The second day in Savannah and the first day of the year we were in Savannah. We did a lot of sightseeing and even went on a ghost tour!!

Ewww! Joey looks spooky! This was part of our ghost tour. This was a bar/restaurant/inn called 17 hundred 90. Rumor has it that Anna Powers, who threw herself from the balcony in the early 1800's, still haunts here today. For more information on 17 hundred ninety click here.



Here we are in front of the beautiful fountain in Forsyth Park. Forsyth Park is over 20 acres and includes walking paths and a fragrant garden for the blind--just to name a few.

New Year's Eve

Here are some pictures from our New Year's Eve. We went to Savannah with J.W. Morris and met up with Alex Harris & Mike Nelson (they currently live in Savannah.) We had a lot of fun. Note: the daiquiris in hand are from Wet Willie's and if you are ever in Savannah, I would highly recommend you stop by Wet Willie's on River Street.
