Fun with Marshall

I am a little behind on the blogging, but I did want to talk about our weekend of fun with Marshall. Marshall is our nephew and his mom's 10 year class reunion was May 30th so Joey & I got to spend some time with Marshall. It was a beautiful day so Marshall was able to water the garden with Uncle Joey. (Pictures of this will be uploaded and shared soon.) Of course, he comes in with dirt in his hair, in between wrinkles, everywhere! haha. After gardening and a good bath, we headed over to the Butler's home where Georgia Anne, Jack, & Daniel provided much entertainment for Marshall. We had dinner where we make shifted a high chair (Georgia Anne's creation) with an Elmo chair. We stayed until around 9:30 p.m. or so and headed home where we all piled into bed together. It was a lot of fun. We can't wait for another weekend of fun with Marshall!

Work

Joey & I are both totally happy with not only our new life together, but our professional lives as well.  We both are so happy with our careers. Joey absolutely loves working for Milstead Farm Group and I feel the same way about Dabwood Realty, Inc. (and my part time jobs at Ann Taylor, Scarborough & Weldon, LLC and WTLS.)  We've both been blessed with wonderful bosses and great people to work with.  I know this may sound like a weird thing to blog about, but its very rare that people really ENJOY what they do! So I had to share. And, I  found the most wonderful quote that I wanted to share:

The more I want to get something done, the less I call it work. -Richard Bach

www.tallasseetimes.com

Check out this week's edition of Tallassee Times, Tallassee's online newspaper at www.tallasseetimes.com.  Lots of great news and of course, my open house information...

Thank Goodness!

If you have a cell phone or home phone, then you've probably gotten an automated message from someone saying your car warranty has expired. I've opted out of these several times and finally spoke to someone to ask to be taken off the list.  I haven't had a call since, but I'm holding my breath.  With that being said, I was very happy when Joey sent me the article below.

Feds Sue Car Warranty Companies Behind Robo-Calls

Federal regulators filed suits Thursday against several companies they say are behind a national wave of spam "robo-calls" that warn people their auto warranties are expiring and offer new service plans.

Federal Trade Commission officials said they asked a federal court in Chicago to halt the illegal telemarketing campaign of "Your Car Warranty Has Expired." Officials say as many as 1 billion of the nuisance calls have been made to Americans.

The FTC named Voice Touch Inc. and Transcontinental Warranty Inc. in the suits. It is seeking injunctions forcing them to return allegedly ill-gotten gains.

FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz called it "one of the most aggressive" telemarketing schemes the agency has ever seen.

"I'm not sure which is worse, the abusive telemarketing tactics of these companies, or the way they try to deceive people once they get them on the phone," Leibowitz said. "Either way, we intend to shut them down."

It took some heavy sleuthing to determine what companies were responsible since they made "extraordinary" efforts to conceal their identities by masking their true phone numbers, he said.

If a consumer received such a call about his car warranty, "there's a very real chance that these guys did it," Leibowitz told reporters in a conference call.

Representatives from Voice Touch and Transcontinental Warranty were not immediately available to comment Thursday afternoon.

While seeking return of allegedly illegal profits from the companies, the FTC isn't immediately seeking civil fines against them but may consider doing so later on, agency officials said.

Attorneys general in Arkansas, Indiana and Missouri have taken similar actions over the calls offering deals on extended warranties, which have brought about 300,000 inquiries and 4,000 complaints to the Better Business Bureau from consumers over the past two years. The calls come even if the consumer has signed up for the national "Do Not Call" registry, which is maintained by the FTC.

The calls target people regardless of whether they have warranties or even own cars. They call numbers randomly and leave messages with a computerized voice telling people, falsely, that their auto warranties are about to expire, regulators say.

"Out of warranty? You are still eligible to reactivate warranty coverage. This is the final call before we close the file." The recording typically gives the caller an option to stop receiving calls, but they continue to come even if consumers opt out.

If people call back and agree to buy policies, the companies often don't let them see the contracts until they agree to pay. And some people don't learn until they've spent thousands of dollars that the deals don't cover many types of repairs, according to regulators.

First Dinner

Here are some pictures of the first dinner I actually cooked as a wife.  Our honeymoon was about a week and once we got home, we've just been running and trying to organize the house.  So, today, I finally got the kitchen in order and I decided to cook.  For appetizers, we had roasted chickpeas and these wonderful olives that I bought at Williams & Sonoma.  The lady recommended them because I had been craving olives because we ate so many olives while in Europe.  They were great.  (I highly recommend them - they are DeCarlo very large olives.) The roasted chickpeas were quite good too, I got the recipe at www.allrecipes.com.  For dinner, we had one of Joey's favorite, tomato soup, but I put a little kick in the soup by adding some spices and jalapenos!  I think that you'll see that Joey enjoyed his dinner from the look on his face in the pictures! ;)

Married Life...

Joey & I are enjoying our married life so far. We haven't blogged much lately because we have been so busy. We still have several things to do so that we can get our house into order, but things are slowly but surely coming together. I finally broke down and made a checklist so I'm hoping this helps me.  I am working on sending out an e-mail because I will be changing my e-mail.  I have been using yahoo for many years, but have decided to use gmail now.  My new e-mail address is kamiscarborough@gmail.com.  Shoot me an e-mail and I'll add you to my address book.  I'll update later in the week when I have some more time.
